The initial inspiration for Air Max 97 comes from nature\’s basic resources, that is, the seamless flow of water, but the dynamic flow of power. The shoe pays tribute to the silver high-speed train, and its sought-after metal finishes are inspired by this, “reminiscent of the past and the future,” Street explains. The fused spokes echo the rhythm of the modern city, giving the 97 futuristic demeanor.
Modern innovation is to establish a new identity on the premise of getting rid of the limitations of the past. “We were able to design and adjust the surface of the shoe in a novel way that was different from the past. Previously, we were tailoring or sewing different mesh fabrics or stitching elements in the design,” says Street. Nowadays, the streamlined design features an integrated woven upper, a soft upper, a modified outsole and a gradient toe to heel. These elements combine to pay tribute to the classic style.
