Since 2004, Air Jordan has been working with Doernbecher Children’s Hospital for 20 years. To mark this historic moment, the duo released the “Doernbecher Freestyle 20” collection late last year.
Supporting Doernbecher Freestyle is not only a tribute to creativity, but also a profound change. It provides critical funding for a cause worthy of support, while demonstrating the amazing resilience and imagination of young patients.
The shoes were created by designer Jillian Beagley, inspired by her “Mandarin duck” style from her basketball career. White lychee leather upper adopts asymmetrical design, mint green and cherry blossom powder color base, like a colorful palette. The Velcro at the collar can be freely replaced with a personalized embroidered badge. The tip of the shoe is embroidered with a “Give life” public service statement, and the pink Flying Man logo on the heel is an interesting contrast with the words “real gold”, reflecting Jillian’s life rule of “being true to yourself is real gold”.
Air Jordan 6 “Doernbecher” is the focus of the 2024 series. The overall design features heart-shaped perforations that symbolize warmth and care. Customizable Velcro gives the wearer the freedom of choice, making each shoe unique. The shoes also feature a bold metallic gold trim. The colour scheme combines sail colours, pink and green tones in a soft yet bold style.
The metal fusion casting process is used throughout LACES locks, LACES caps and heel markings. “movement is joy” is engraved on the inner midsole of the left shoe, and “this is the true me” is engraved on the cheap air jordans corresponding position of the right shoe. With the ice blue gradient crystal outsole, the designers imbued the resilient vitality of the young patient into a wearable artistic expression.
The vamp is stitched with laser graphics to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the collection and pay tribute to the participation of 122 little patient designers. Twenty numbered pairs of Air Jordan XX “Doernbecher Freestyle” sneakers will be auctioned at Sotheby’s, with all proceeds donated to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
